My home renovation journey

My home is my pride and joy. It’s taken blood, sweat and tears to get here, but it’s definitely been worth it.

When lockdown hit in March 2020, I decided to start on a new home renovation project. A perfect time to commit to such a challenge, alongside homeschooling two young children! Not to be deterred, my husband and I set about replacing the whole of the landing floor with scaffolding wood; the same scaffolding wood I use for my home designs and creations. I won’t pretend it was easy or straightforward, but we love the result! The rustic look of the wood allows for a busy family life without the worry of marking. Even if it does wear, I can sand and re-treat. From the short time people were allowed in our home, we’ve had some amazing compliments, and I love how unique it is.

My favourite room in my home is our lounge. We used it as a dumping ground for nine years while the rest of the house was renovated. For nine long years it was just plain plaster on the walls and no flooring. When the opportunity came to renovate, I was able to take all my years of design and shape this into my perfect room. It’s warm and cosy (we have a beautiful wood burner, perfect for chilly winter nights), whilst also being light and airy. It’s full of beautiful pieces sourced from local shops and the perfect place to relax and unwind. I sometimes even let the kids in!

My favourite type of styles are Scandi and Modern Rustic and these effects have been achieved in my home alongside my favourite earthy colours. Although I don’t tend to like brighter colours in my home, some colour brings warmth. I’ve added shelving in most of my rooms (great for displaying hand picked designs from our local shop Echo), and even in places where you wouldn’t expect a shelf! Such as above a door frame or even hanging down from the ceiling above our dining table. These more unusual pieces help give the uniqueness that I love.

Most people would think my house is finished, but a love of design means my work is never done! I’ll regularly introduce new pieces into my home, move around my furniture and change items on the shelves to accommodate new designs or ideas. My next project is the bathroom (just don’t tell my husband!)

But most of all, everything I do, I do to make my house feel like a warm and wonderful home. Whatever your style, whatever your inspirations, a small amount of love and hard work can go a long way.

If this has inspired you, check out some of my creations in our shop.
